why somatics at work?

No matter what work means to you, most of us give a large part of our life to it. We make sense of our purpose, responsibilities, and relationships at and through our work, while adjusting who we are to fit into our environment.

Our value is often measured by what we produce, not what we feel. Yet, so many of us feel over extended, let our anxiety lead, or smile and nod when we actually disagree. Somatic coaching gives us the space to ask and learn:

“what is possible when I listen and act from my body at work?”

“Lars is as comforting and welcoming as it gets. They have a tone that allows you to express yourself exactly as you are, and feel zero judgement for your authenticity. That combined with deep in knowledge in somatics creates for a really effective coach.”

what are common goals?

  • Build a culture of collective care and creative engagement

  • Grow influential capacity through more responsibility and impact

  • Feel connectedness within “work self” and “personal life self”

  • Contribute within capacity and hold work boundaries

  • Shift out of performing perfectionism through awareness and creativity

  • Speak up and stand ground when disagreeing with people in power

what is an example of a session?

Let’s imagine that you have the goal of growing your confidence and influence at work. One of your challenges is speaking up when your boss is present, which impacts your ability to contribute and offer value.

We would first ask, “what happens around your boss?” Is your mind alert or aloof? What is your emotion? What are your impulses? How is your body protecting you?

We’d then imagine and practice speaking up and working with the body to guide you. What happens when you straighten your posture? What happens when you center what you care about? What happens when you say “no”?

Somatic coaching is all about practice when the pressure is low; so, when that challenging moment happens, you can recognize the sensation and enact new moves that are aligned to your already practiced knowing.
